About the Biggies

To recognise the positive contribution business makes to communities across the country, the Business Council of Australia has launched the first ever Biggies awards.

The awards will celebrate the best of the people – and the businesses they are a part of – who have gone above and beyond to help the community.

Australians have been through an extraordinary and challenging 12 months.

True to the Australian spirit people have pulled together, supported each other and offered a helping hand.
Throughout this period, the business community has stood with them.
As the crisis over summer unfolded, business wasted no time in rolling up their sleeves and mobilising an enormous emergency response.

Many of them immediately introduced emergency leave for volunteers; donated millions to charities; delivered goods on the grounds; and waived or delayed debts for affected customers, and small and local businesses.

Business deployed their considerable know-how, resources, expertise, and people, to help communities most in need.

When a once in a generation health crisis upended lives and livelihoods, it was business that kept supermarkets open, paused loan and bill repayments, kept supply lines going and as many Australians as possible safely employed.

We know every day businesses makes a difference to the communities in which they operate in, from providing jobs to supporting the local sports team. From creating much needed training opportunities to breaking down the barriers that prevent people from getting ahead.

In response to the bushfires, the Business Council of Australia set up BizRebuild to take practical and targeted action to help devastated small and local businesses get back on their feet so communities can recover, rebuild and come back stronger than before.

BizRebuild is on the ground and listening directly to communities. This means we are able to direct financial and in-kind assistance to where it will make the most difference. We are uniquely placed to respond to both business and community needs.

We need to raise substantial funds and in-kind assistance from businesses and others to support the rebuilding of communities, and we are taking a long-term approach.
